Lost Frequencies: Metamorphic Psychosis Thresholds of Orford Ness
Course:
Diploma 22: Draw With Me
Year:
This project delves into the mysterious and transformative landscape of Orford Ness, a secluded island off Suffolk's coast with a secretive military history. The island's terrain is split into a conservation area for endangered species and a desolate bomb testing site, reflecting its dual nature.
Orford Ness merges architecture with its shifting environment, creating a surreal realm where past and present blur. Hidden laboratories, once used for secret experiments, now blend with nature, symbolizing the island's unique fusion of technology and vitality. Forests morph into radar towers, emitting historical frequencies that tell tales of secrecy and survival.
A transformative institute at the island's heart evolves from radar receiver to barracks to recreational space, embodying the island’s metamorphic essence. Interactive installations, such as aeolian flutes and wind-activated sound sculptures, enhance the landscape's beauty and promote ecological pulsations, blending reality and fantasy. The Lost Frequencies of Orford Ness become an orchestra, creating a mesmerizing interplay of history, nature, and art.
